In the furniture
business, the markups are usually large enough to create some pretty
exciting discount programs that have added up to huge sales gains
for our friends at dane decor. At first, the client hesitated at
giving such a drastic 50% off deal. But we insisted that people would
feel so good about getting such a great deal, they would spend more
money than they initially would have. “Eureka,
it worked! We posted our largest gross sale dollars ever and could
not control the amount of traffic” said Carl Hamilton, one of
the owners, “we have since structured a tiered system, where
we send to a targeted geographic area each week to control the traffic.” Carl
called periodically during the two days to tell us how great the
